Intro

Energy Capital Ventures is the only early-stage venture fund focusing on the ESG imperatives and the digital transformation of the natural gas industry. They leverage a deep integration and a customized service model with strategic limited partners to enable the foremost platform for innovation in natural gas.

Redesign

Energy Capital Ventures came to us as a new and ambitious company ready to do big things. Before officially starting their journey they needed a killer brand. They had an existing brand that they weren't entirely happy with and asked that we give them something fresh and sophisticated.

The ECV Star

We started with a few different concepts before landing on this mark. ECV is a venture fund for the evolution of the natural gas industry. So we thought of ways to incorporate the foundations of that industry. We had this idea to use topographical maps as inspiration specifically maps guiding an excavation as a reference to the process of extracting natural gas. While thinking in this direction we played with ideas incorporating the earths core, as obviously this is the origin of the energy source. While exploring ways to show the earth’s core in a mark we used some information they gave us on the technical side of the process. ECV explained the triple-nested pipeline which is an innovation of the natural gas industry. We used that more as a visual reference and played with ideas on how to combine that and the earth’s core. Then finally, based on conversations with the client during workshops, we learned that they were really fond of mid-century modern design and this idea of “innovation” during that time. Which had us thinking of the 1950’s kind of space age feeling. We started researching popular games of the 50s playing on the childlike vision of the future and the most popular game was jacks. So we started sketching out several versions of a jack and continued to simplify it until it combined both a jack and a star going back to that 1950s space age kind of idea.

Complete Brand Guide

Website Development

After completing ECV's new brand we moved onto creating a new site. Our main goal with this site design was to exude sophistication and class. While maintaining their fresh new look we were able to develop something that professionally displayed what Energy Capital Ventures is all about.

ECV Brand Guide Book

After publishing the new site and finalizing any loose odds and ends, the creative team decided to gift the ECV team a complete brand guide as a printed book. I took this project on myself as I have an interest in book design and enjoyed laying out ECV's brand evolution. See the finished product below.
